2010 FIBER ARTS WORKSHOPS
(in the “Hat Room” – Check in at the Information Booth in the J-Barn)
Workshop sign-up deadline is April 9, 2010.
No refunds after April 9th. Workshop students registering before the deadline will receive free a Spring Fair entrance pass.

Making Self-Striping Yarn by Pat Pietsch & Kathleen Wright:
Date: Friday, April 16, 2010. Time: 10am - 1pm. Class Size: 15
Dye your own self-striping yarn using the Elhai yarn wrapping board, which ensures the orderly and accurate winding of the yarn on the board. Jacquard acid dyes are used to create solid and “Fair Isle” stripes. You will have enough yarn to knit a scarf, hat, mittens, or socks and be able to take home your own Elhai board.
Cost: $35 + $28 (Materials Fee: Includes Elhai Board) Total: $63 *

Team Drum Carding by Amelia Garripoli:
Date: Saturday, April 17, 2010. Time: 10am - 1pm. Class Size: 15
Let’s dive into drum carding while discussing washing and testing fleece while carding wool into batts. Then we’ll jump into fantastic fiber and color blends on our drum carders. Groups of 3 will share a drum carder, so efficient team carding methods will also be covered. Great for felters and spinners, no previous carding experience required! Some drum carders available. If you have a drum carder, bring it.

Goat Shearing On A Stand by Eileen Hordyk:
Date: Saturday, April 17, 2010. Time: 10am - 1pm. Class Size: Limited, Sign Up Early (Class Will Be The Arena)
A ‘hands on’ workshop for anyone interested in learning about goat shearing. Learn how someone without previous experience can shear a goat or a sheep on a fitting stand. Dress warmly for goat handling & shearing participation.
Cost: $35. + $5 (Materials Fee) Total: $40*

The Art Of The Bummer Lamb by Susie Wilson:
Date: Saturday, April 17, 2010. Time: 1pm - 4pm. Class Size: 15 (Class Will Be In J Barn)
It's inevitable. At some time or another, anyone raising anywhere from 1 to 50+ sheep is going to have an orphan or a "bummer" lamb. You can count on it. So...now what? What do you feed it? How much? What supplies do you need on hand? How do I help it thrive?? Can it have goat's milk? We'll have all the answers right here!
Cost: $35 + $5 (Materials Fee) Total: $40*

Spinning Super Sock Yarns by Amelia Garripoli:

Date: Saturday, April 17, 2010. Time: 2pm - 5pm. Class Size: 15
Let’s spin super sock yarns! We’ll sample fibers and plying methods as we discuss finishing and knitting methods for durable sock yarns – you’ll get a few new colors in your sock yarn paint box from this workshop. Spinners should be able to spin a consistent single and ply. Please bring a spinning wheel in working order, 4 bobbins and a lazy kate. Spindlers welcome – bring a few spindles in various weights, or what you have.

Sock Knitting 101 with Amy Wolf:
Date: Sunday, April 18, 2010. Time: 10am - 1pm. Class Size: Limited, Sign Up Early
Come learn the joys of hand knitting socks; how to turn a heel, pick up stitches and finishing a toe using the kitchner by making a pair of socks in miniature. After learning these techniques, reading regular sized sock patterns will be a breeze. At the completion of the class each student will have made at least one miniature sock. I will provide all the materials for you to make one pair of socks. Come and have fun! Student Needs to be able to: cast on, knit and purl. All other stitches will be taught in class. Each student will receive a sock kit that includes: Patterns, Sock yarn, One set of dpn (double pointed needles), One tapestry needle.

Wool Felting: “My Favorite Ornament” by Elsa Leyden:
Date: Sunday, April 18, 2010. Time: 1:30pm - 5:30pm. Class Size: 10
“I call it that because it uses all of my favorite felting techniques!” Make a wet felted ball using alpaca fiber, decked out with copper wire, glass beads and charms, creating a fabulous contrast of texture.
Students Bring: Wire working tools and beads, if you have them.
